We are often asked ‘What should my child wear to Gymnastics?’
When starting out we are happy for participants to wear shorts or leggings and a T shirt (T shirt tucked in and no jeans)
However, once your child has committed to a class you may want to consider purchasing a leotard. Leotards are the most appropriate attire for doing Gymnastics for a number of reasons:
- They are comfortable for the Gymnasts
- They allow freedom of movement without restriction of extra material
- They look smart and allow coaches to see correct body positions when teaching
- They are fitted, therefore safer when coaches support Gymnasts. Extra material and un-tucked T shirts can get caught.
We have our own club leotards which can be purchased through Hannah. Please look at the Leotard order form for size guide and prices. Your child may be asked to wear a club leotard for competitions, however we do offer a ‘hire option’ for competitions.
For normal classes we do allow your child to wear a leotard of their choice. We have no restrictions on colours or patterns, however leotards with skirts attached are not appropriate. The price of leotards can vary, here are a few good places to find leotards on the internet:
- A star leotards
- Little stars leotards
- Quatro leotards
- The Zone
- Milano pro sport
Your investment will be worthwhile as leotards have a long life! It may be worth getting in touch with other parents if you wish to sell leotards on or buy one second hand.
We hope you take the following information as useful and ask that you may consider sending your child to their Gymnastics class in a leotard. For some more useful reading we have a link to Gemma Coles ‘Head over heels Gymnastics’ blog… 8 Things to consider when choosing a leotard for your child
We look forward to seeing some fun and exciting leotards in the new term!
It is nearly the end of term, watching week for parents will be next week:
Monday 9th July
Thursday 12th July
Friday 13th July
Our final week of term will be the following week (Monday 16th, Thursday 19th, Friday 20th). We look forward to the last couple of weeks of term and wish all members and their families a safe and fun summer holiday!
This years ‘Spring Challenge’ competition was held at Blandford Gym club. For some of these children it was their first competition, others returned this year to perform higher level routines. All Gymnasts had to perform a floor routine, 2 vaults and 2 trampet runs. As always we were very proud of all of the Gymnasts who took part and we say a big thank you to the coaches and volunteers who helped in the build up to the competition and on the day itself.
We are running our Monday class as normal on Monday 7th May. We hope to see you all there!
We look forward to welcoming our Gymnasts back to club this week. If you know that your child has been asked to move class and are unsure of its timings please get in touch with Hannah, or check the websites class page. All members class fees must be paid by/on their first class back.
Class time changes
Orange group, Green group and our Adults class should already be aware that timings have changed slightly. Please check the websites class page for up to date information
If your child is a new starter, we look forward to meeting them this week. Please arrive in plenty of time for the class, but remain outside until coaches welcome you in. Your child will need to be suitably dressed to participate in the class, we advise shorts or leggings with a T shirt or a leotard, no jeans. Jewellery can not be worn when participating in Gymnastics.
You will be asked to fill in a details form for your child and may drop off or stay to watch your child’s free trial session. At the end of the class you will be given details of how to join the club. The club runs from The Swanage School’s Sports hall, High St, Swanage BH19 2PH
We look forward to seeing you all soon!

THURSDAY SESSIONS CANCELLED 01/03/2018
Apologies but due to this evenings forecast being potentially bad we have decided to cancel classes. We wouldn’t want anyone to risk the travel or get stranded in the Gym (however fun that sounds!)
We will make a decision about tomorrow’s classes tomorrow morning.
Dorset Floor and Vault 2018

OVERALL: 7 Swanage Gymnasts placed top 3 and 7 placed top 6 overall!
Notices for parents:
When we get back from the half term break we will be working on Proficiency award scheme and Advanced Proficiency award scheme badges. We have a log of which badge your child is working on, however if you are new to the club and know your child has gained badges in a previous club, please let us know which level they are on.
Badge assessments will begin on the first week of term and will continue through to the second week.
Parents watching week will be running on the last week of term: Monday 26th March- Friday 30th March (Good Friday). We will aim to make our award scheme badge presentations during this week, so book it into your diaries!
