Change of Welfare Officer

We would like to say a huge thank you to Kate Mutendera who has been our clubs welfare officer for the last few years. Kate has now finished the role and we will be welcoming Kate Bufton to take over in February 2020. In the mean time any issues regarding safeguarding or concerns of poor practice can be taken to Karen Goldingay our temporary welfare officer.

The Swanage School Primary Gymnastics Event

Swanage Gymnastics and The Swanage School teamed up yesterday to deliver a busy 2 hour session to 20 children from Corfe Castle, St Marys and Sandford St Martins primary school.
Thanks to Joss, Ella and Hannah for volunteering their time to lead the activities and a huge well done to the Swanage school students/SG Gymnasts who assisted in their first experience of coaching. Thank you Mr Lewis for having us, we really enjoyed it!

Coach Education

Well done to Ella who is continuing along her coaching pathway and attended the first module of Level 3 yesterday! Hannah and Chris have also been busy with Risk assessment training last week.
Finally we are really happy to have young leader Emily join us as a helper coach on a Wednesday and Thursday!

DSYGA Club and National level Tumbling

On Sunday 3rd November 15 Swanage Gymnasts travelled to Sherborne for the DSYGA Tumbling competition competing at Club levels 1-4 and one gymnast at National level 1. Some Gymnasts performed new skills for the first time at this competition. Swanage Gymnastics came away with 2 Gold medals, 2 silver medals, 6 top 6 ribbon positions and the remaining 5 in the top 10! This was a tough competition with huge groups to compete against. We are extremely proud of everyone and their hard work. Thanks to the coaches who have worked with these Gymnasts, Chris for Judging and Ella for running mats 1 and 2.

GREAT NEWS! We are really pleased to announce the arrival of our brand new balance beam. We can’t wait to see all of our members benefit from this full size piece of apparatus. We say a huge thank you to lots of people who made this happen:

Suttle stone quarries, Perenco and the South West Amateur Gymnastics Association for their kind contributions towards the cost of the beam
The swanage School, lettings and PE staff for their continued support for Swanage Gymnastics and its members experience
Sue Torniainen for your behind the the scenes support and enthusiasm to help make this happen!

Here are some photographs, we are going to really enjoy this piece of apparatus…

Goodbye for now!

As the term ends we say thanks to the Swanage coaches who have been fantastic as usual and we appreciate all you do to support the club and it’s members. We say a huge thank you and goodbye to 2 members of our team- Scott who has been volunteering for our club for the last 3 years is going to be concentrating on his primary school work and fantastic forest schools program. Coach Kerry has been a Gymnast since the age of 7 and has been with the club since we began. She has continued to train right up until her final class before making a move to University in September. Both extremely committed members of Swanage Gymnastics who will be missed! We hope to see you soon!!
