DSYGA display

We were very pleased to be invited to take part in the Dorset Schools and Youth Gymnastics Association ‘Celebration display’. This afternoon was an opportunity for clubs to say thank you to Roger Castle for his outstanding contribution to Dorset Gymnastics. Roger worked hard to bring gymnasts and clubs together and would happily share coaching advise, and joint training sessions in order to maintain the fantastic network Dorset Gymnastics has. There are so many people who are grateful to Roger for their own reasons, and it is with great sadness that we should share the news of his passing last week. He will be missed but remembered for his passion for our sport and supportive nature.

Coach education and new volunteers

Continually developing our coaches is very important and they have been very busy this summer term with courses and training, here are a few things they have achieved:

Congratulations to Coach Chris for passing his Level 2 General Gymnastics theory and practical exams, we have heard that you breezed through it all!

Well done to young leader Dottie for attending your Proficiency award scheme coaching course in Honiton, your confidence is growing and you are turning into a fantastic coach!

Great to see senior Gymnast Kerry attending her Level 1 General Gymnastics course days, some hard work ahead with log books and an exam, we wish you luck with the coming months!

Hannah has now attended a Preschool Gymnastics coaching course, exciting to know that we are working towards offering Preschool Gymnastics in the future.

Welcome to volunteer Scott who has started to assist on a Thursday evening. Scott is a parent volunteer and also attends our Adults Gymnastics class. With a background in outdoor leadership Scott is a fantastic motivator with great ideas.

We also welcome young leader Tilly to the team. Tilly is one of our older Gymnasts who assists in 2 classes and is great at helping our youngest gymnasts and a fab assistant to the coaches.

Spring challenge competition

We had a large group of Gymnasts attend the annual ‘Spring Challenge’ competition hosted by Blandford Gym club. For some of these children it was their first competition, others returned this year to perform higher level routines. All Gymnasts had to perform a floor routine, 2 vaults and 2 trampet runs. We are extremely proud of all of the Gymnasts who attended and are thankful to to coaches and judges who attended the day in supporting roles.

Come and try Adults Gymnastics

Our Adults class runs on a Thursday evening 7.30pm-8.30pm. We offer a block booking rate of £4.50 when booking a half terms classes or a drop in rate of £5. The class now benefits from our new air sprung tumble run making landings softer and rebounding easier. This class is suitable for beginners so don’t hesitate to come along and have a go!

Joint Gym session

Two of our club members attended a joint Gymnastics session with other young leaders from local clubs. They had an afternoon of trying different disciplines, trampolining and team gym. Thanks to Blandford forum Gym club for hosting, the girls enjoyed getting to know other young leaders and making new friends.

15m Evotrack tumble run

Through their own hard work fundraising and fantastic support from Swanage town council, s.w.a.g.a and d.s.y.g.a our Gymnasts now have a magnificent opportunity to develop their tumbling with our brand new 15m long Evotrack tumble run. With thanks to all Gymnasts, Coaches, families, friends and organisations for their support in making this happen.
